When was the last time you got real jobs for the Union? This is the worst administration that I have even seen in my 20 years as a Union Member. The big General Contractors won’t work with the IBEW. State Legislators won’t help the IBEW because of the Federal Investigation. The non-union is eating our lunch. What have you done for the Membership in your tenor? All you can be concern with is how you’re going to get re-elected. Why do we have a one year contract? Ow ya, I go to the meetings and all you tell the Membership is, I’ll get that information for you in the next meeting. You have become what you promised you would not do. Familiarity breeds contempt and absolute power corrupts. The statement means that people with power end up using it - they might start out using their powers for the good of others, but eventually they end up using it just because they can. Absolute power, such as Hitler or Kim Jong-Il have, leads to making political decisions based on your personal opinions, and that is when you have tyrants and dictators. Good luck with your federal case.

Dear Sister: The Union is a referral agent/office for the signatory contractors. We don't GET jobs. While we may be the worst administration in your 20 years, we don't even come close to the way past administrations treated the membership. The large General Contractors don't want to do business with the IBEW because they find and exploit cheap labor and they only need us on the complicated projects, (Life Science, Brown University). The non union has been eating our lunch since the mid 80's, ( 9 years before you got here). In my tenure, I have created a fair referral system. With the help of Labor trustees we now have an investment program where you can decide where your investments go. While you say the politicians won't help us it's because the "open shop" has a well oiled lobbying machine, (you should visit the State House and see for yourself), but we do have some friends at there and can get legislation past. Why a one year contract? Very simple, there are no large projects on the horizon and you can't bargain when you have a supply of members and no demand for work, basic business principals. The office of the Business Manager does not have the power "of the job" to hold over your head because you don't participate in picket lines or demonstrations like they did in the past. It appears by your writing you may have trouble reading blue prints, we have classes for that, also the last part of your message looks like plagiarism. Don't be influenced by the negative attitudes around you, find a retired member and ask him what he endured in his career during the 50's 60's 70's and 80's. We have been around 110 years, we will prevail this deep recession. Thank you for your comments. Allen P. Durand, Bus. Mgr.
