EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING FACILITY

IBEW Local 99 JATC Training Facility in Western Cranston provides training to our apprentices and continuing education to journey sisters and brothers throughout their career. The Inside Wireman apprenticeship is five yearswith over 700 hours of classroom education experience and 10,000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT).

The Tele-communications apprenticeship is two and one-half years with over 360 hours of classroom education experience and 4,800 OJT hours.

Training is no longer exclusive to the classroom as apprentices enjoy the ability to access classroom documents, homework, and interactive study materials from home through our relationship with the Electrical Training Alliance (ETA) and its online Blended Learning.

Specialized training is provided to Journey Wiremen needing to brush up on specific skills and specialty classes are provided as required in topics such as confined space training, NSC lift truck operator, OSHA 10 & 30 to name a few. Every Friday night is Skills night where Apprentices and Journey Wiremen can sign up to expand their hands-on skills.

All Journey Wiremen and Apprentices are required to earn their Code of Excellence certification.

Apprentices are offered the opportunity to train for and compete in the local, State and National Skills USA competition in Electrical Construction Wiring and Industrial Motor Controls. Our instructors also train winners from competing RI schools to prepare for the National Competition. The RI State Industrial Motor Control final is held here at the IBEW Local 99 JATC Training Facility.

IBEW Local 99 JATC Apprentice Program has produced 10 National Skills USA medal winners since 2004.

Apprentices have the opportunity to earn an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Technical Studies from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). The five year apprenticeship provides 44 credits towards the 65 credit Associate Degree, and courses taught by CCRI faculty at our training facility provide the remaining 21 credits towards the degree.
